Internet Evolution

From the hyperlink...

In the space of twenty years, at most thirty years, the destiny of the world has literally been shaped by this revolution in technology, communication, and morals. Sometimes for the best... often for the worst.

Even though the Internet is actually older (Arpanet), its genesis dating back to at least the 1960s, it is over the last ten to fifteen years that a major schism has occurred between an amplifying, supplementary Internet and its deregulating and substituting shadow, revealing in the photographic sense of the term, accelerating in the chemical sense of the term... Social networks and the advent of AI.

From the hyperlink to the connected object, the path taken has been ultra-fast, for not to say violent and, for many, impossible to follow. After all, wasn't that intended? Isn't speed the key element in a monopolization strategy?

... to the Web?.0

But from a universe of regulated, rich, and balanced virtuality, supposed to bring us closer together, enrich our perspectives by freeing us from numerous borders and a multitude of constraints, we have, on the contrary, entered, not to say let ourselves be pushed, into a Cyberspace of ever-dense opacity, a perfect mousetrap, a perpetual labyrinth of addictions.

The participatory and regulated Internet, so seductive, has allowed itself to be overwhelmed by all the socio-economic failings, very real ones, that all Internet users face daily. Yet, technology is not the enemy, the one that subjugates those for whom it was initially intended... yes!

Except in the context of the control of nuclear power, never in history has the mathematical mind conferred so much power to such a small number of individuals.

The Cyberspace of Tomorrow

The systemic dangers posed by the current Internet and its developments, such as ultra-connected AI and the potential Metaverse, not only weaken democracy, the nation-state, and its institutions. Like any empire, any dictatorship in the making, they ultimately carry within them the seeds of their own destruction, at the risk of condemning Cyberspace to a probable disappearance (possibility of a digital counter-revolution).

What then would be the major and precursory risk, which few people see?

A disaffection of the user towards a technology perceived as a Trojan horse ever intensifying mafia, monopolistic and oligopolistic excesses, endless deregulation, devastating and alienating free everything, in short, massive digital serfdom.

To finish, a generalized mistrust and failure, towards a universe where everything would be false, in which all the information thattransit would inevitably be open to question, because they are highly manipulated or simply improbable.

Worse still, the digital panic, also called digital Darwinism, which is currently gripping many and which today testifies to this absolute fear of an AI that would quickly replace humans in a process of ultra-rationalization, through systematic automation and the development of biased (or even foolish) algorithmic molds, this panic is accelerating and amplifying the dynamics of blackmail. In short, be digitally dependent and compliant... or don't be.

Short epilogue

How then can we disentangle fantasy from reality, truth from falsehood? How can we avoid giving in to this omnipresent and endogenously orchestrated blur?

Quite simply, by reappropriating the primary purpose of Cyberspace, by restoring the framework of fair competition and the force of the Law, by establishing universally accepted and clear guidelines, which would thus guide us towards the final emergence of an authentic, ethical, and supplementary AI.

What's more, by removing humans from the production equation, the logic then engendered has, surprisingly, revived an old myth... that of universal income.

It is strange to see how the most predatory neoliberalism may ultimately end up creating a new form of communism.
